Spurgeon's Online

Spurgeon’s College is the largest Baptist College in Britain and is very experienced at producing open learning materials of the highest quality. Spurgeon's is also accredited by the British Accreditation Council (BAC) for Independent Further and Higher Education as an Independent Higher Education Institution. The BAC inspectors commented in their report that, 'This is an excellent institution which provides top-rate academic and professional theological education'. At the recent assessment of the course undertaken by the University of Wales, Dr Trevor Cooling wrote, “Spurgeon's College has an asset in its Open Learning work that could make it a field leader amongst theological colleges.”

Dr Cooling is currently working for the Diocese of Gloucester as the Secondary Education Adviser and for The Stapleford Centre as the Director of the Transforming Lives Programme and Course Leader for its suite of distance learning courses in Religious Education and Faith and Education. He is also an Honorary Fellow in the School of Education at the University of Gloucestershire.

Now you can study at Spurgeon’s College Online from the comfort of your own home, or anywhere you choose!

Studying with Spurgeon's Online means that you are in charge. You take responsibility for what you learn, when you learn and at what speed you learn. You are not tied to academic years and you can start your course whenever it suits you best. Our newly designed Online modules bring with them the added advantages of less paperwork and modern, interactive electronic learning.

If you are looking to complete six modules within a twelve month period which probably requires 600 hours of study, you may qualify for a Local Education Authority (LEA) Grant towards your fees. This applies only to UK residents and is subject to the agreement of your LEA. For details email our Online Learning Administrator, Emma George at: e.george@spurgeons.ac.uk.

Aims & Objectives

The Online modules are designed to give you a greater understanding of the Bible and the Christian faith and to develop the skills necessary so that you can become even more effective in your personal witness and ministry. If you are considering mission or ministry but are not certain if you have the skills necessary to undertake a period of extended study, Online Learning is a very useful way to gauge your personal capabilities because you can purchase one module at a time.

“Preparing Christians for mission and ministry” is the slogan Spurgeon’s College. Our philosophy for training is, therefore, vocationally and practically orientated. Decide you want to study with us and we will do everything in our power to help you succeed.

You will not be left to struggle on your own. A module tutor, appointed by Spurgeon’s College, will help you through each module. Your progress will be monitored and your assignments will be marked. Your module tutor and the Spurgeon's Online College staff at College will always be on hand to give you advice and to deal with any queries you may have.
