You can progress to a Degree with Spurgeon's Online once the diploma level has been achieved. Check out the Level 6 modules.
The Degree of Bachelor of Divinity is awarded to students who have demonstrated the ability to:
- analyse, evaluate and reflect in an integrated and systematic way on themain aspects of Christian theology and the contexts in which it is practised
- exercise creative and independent thinking based on competence in a variety of complementary methods of critical study
- communicate core Christian convictions in the light of a critical awareness of the relationship between Christian theology and its wider public contexts
- exercise appropriate skills, qualities and confidence for engaging in mature, effective and reflective leadership
In support of these learning outcomes, at level 6 the Online Learning material is creative and engaging. We encourage students to become confident, independent learners. External tutors are appointed to provide on-line support for students and to mark assessed work.
Access to level 6 is carefully monitored. We initially operate on the basis that we normally expect students to achieve at least an average of 50% across the modules at level 5, if they are to succeed at level 6. Please be aware that dissertations are only permissible if your average marks are 60+.
In order to upgrade the Diploma in Theology to the BD, 120 more credits are required. This means that the total number of credits for the BD (hons.) is 360. Until 2011 at this level we worked with 10 credit and 20 credit modules. As from 2011, the pattern is 15 credit modules of which eight are required to complete level 6. Previously, porfolios were a means of assesment, but from 2011 most modules are assessed by essays and a learning journal, very much as at levels 4 and 5. Learning Journals enables the College to:
- Deter plagiarism by tracking student effort
- Check student interaction with all the module content
- Support the development and demonstration of a wide range of personal, academic and vocational capabilities
- Evidence reflection on and analysis of learning
- Encourage critical thinking
- Support the integration of learning across individual modules
The University of Wales registration fee for the Degree level is £147. This fee needs to be paid to Spurgeon's College, which is responsible for forwarding registration fees directly to the University. We recommend that you register once you have completed one or two modules at this level. You then gain access to the University's own Online resources.
Individual module prices are listed in the drop down menu.
