One of the books I have found really useful for considering the different types of Biblical literature is "How to read the Bible for all its worth", www.amazon.co.uk/How-Read-Bible-All-Worth/dp/0310246040/. I've read it several times now, and still dip into it regularly.

It is one of the set books for the Using the Bible module anyway, so no ill store for anyone studying with Spurgeon's Online.
