Hi Eleanor,
I've nearly finished Unit 4 of the Access Course and I thought I might experiment with printing out Unit 5, to see how it worked out. It seems to take some time to find the best way of studying. I'm always losing important bits of
paper though, so storing the information on the laptop does save space and it keeps everything together!

Did you do the Access Course first?

I think it's good to begin with a short course, which can be completed within a few months, before continuing with the long
modules.

I was wondering what a "flat garage" was, until I realised that you were talking about a make of car!
What a marvellous opportunity for you to study free from distractions.

I hope your studies are progressing well.

Hi Kathy,
Sorry to have suddenly disappeared. I'm not sure where the last few weeks have gone, can't believe we had this conversation so long ago! So did you try printing unit 5 yet? If so, how's it going?

I've been very thankful for these printable versions these past couple of weeks. Without them I don't think I'd have ever got the Pastoral unit done that it as suggested I look at before Friday.

As for the access course, I decided to jump straight in with the first regular module. This was due in part to having done an undergraduate degree before but mainly because the only hope I have of being able to get my brain cells round this is if God helps me. He doesn't need to do the access course first so I decided not to either ;) Might be a bit of a slap dash approach but it seems to be working so far. That said, I've not submitted my first assignment yet ;)

Anyway, hope things are all good with you. Are you getting excited about Christmas yet? I am. I love Christmas!

Take care,
El xx

Dear Eleanor,
I saved Unit 5 of the Access Course on to Pdf file on my computer, but it ran to 23 pages, with only a few words or sentences on each page! I didn't print it out, but I have printed out some useful information which I can keep in my file. It would be really useful if there was a printable version of the Units, as many websites have on the Internet.

I've submitted Assignment One, which was just a short letter to my tutor and now I am working on Unit 8, which involves writing a guided essay. I've printed out all my own course notes so far, because I needed them to write the letter and the essay and I'm amazed at how much work I've been able to cover!

I like working directly onto the computer, because I can write much faster and everything is kept easily accessible, but it would be useful to have the course notes in a printed form. I couldn't cope with hundreds of pages of notes with just a few words on each page, as I don't have space to store that much information!

I think I would like to try the certificate course, but it would be useful to know in advance which books are needed and how much they would cost, so I'd have an idea whether the course was affordable, apart from the initial £100 for each module.

I hope everyone has a good Christmas holiday and new Year.

Best wishes,

Kathy

Hi Kathy,

I am pleased to hear that you are interested in going on to the Certificate course. You may be interested in looking at the 'module descriptors' for the modules which give a brief overview of what the module entails and some of the suggested reading.

You can find this by:

  • logging in
  • click on 'courses'
  • click on 'certificate in Theology'
  • click on the module title that you would like to find out about (i.e. click on 'Using the Bible)
  • a new page will open with an orange column on the left hand side; there should be an option to click on 'module descriptor' (it should be written in white)
  • click on this and you will be able to find some more information about the module

I hope this helps.

Thanks,

Emma

Hi!

I am on Unit 8 of the Using the Bible Module (my first module) and just a few thoughts.  For me I type in my journal mainly those areas requested in the Module.  But at the end of each unit I go back and handwrite what I believe is an overview of the unit.  By waiting until the end it helps me incorporate in my notes information that I may have grasped along the way in my reading, thoughts, etc.  I know the assignments at the end are essays rather than "tests" so I am not sure how all of this will work out.  Perhaps some of you that have been through several modules by now will have some further insight?

Blessings,

Joe
