Piller Series of Commentaries
QuoteReply

I am interested in the the Piller series of commentaries that are currently being developed and published by IVP. They appear to be really good. They do appear in the Commentary Series List but that list offers no indication of which series is light, medium or heavy weight. Any indication from anyone what the Piller series so far is in terms of depth?

Hello Nathan, I have spoken to the librarian here at Spurgeon's who has advised the following:

The Pillar New Testament Commentary series are very well regarded and she would say that they verge toward the medium/heavyweight. They are definitely not "light."

I hope that is helpful to you.

Thanks, Emma

Different commentaries suit different people.  I suggest you go to a library or a bvookshop and take a look at the various comentaries on offer.  The Tyndale series is quite good for level 4 (Certificate)/ level 5 (Diploma) work.  By the time you get to level 6 (Degree) you will need to be consulting commentaries like the Word series!  The new IVP series mentioned above is also good and useful at all levels.  The Bible Speaks Today series is often a useufl place to start and are particularly useful for preachers.  I hope this helps a little.  Debra
