How to apply

Applying for Online Learning with Spurgeon's College could not be easier. All you need to do is:

1.Fill in the Application Form

2. Submit the Application Form

3. Go to 'My Profile' and follow the instructions

You will be guided through the process one step at a time.

You need to be aware that the academic standard is the next step up from A-Level. Whilst we will do everything we can to assist you, the course is demanding both in terms of work required and time commitment needed. However, why not start with the "Access Module" if you have any worries at all?  This is a gentle introduction to the world of higher educataion and theological study.  We suggest that you start with the module 'Reading and Using the Bible' if you feel confident in beginning at University certificate level.

Although no formal language requirement is stipulated for undertaking an Online module, it is our considered opinion that if students are successfully to complete a University Certificate (or above) they require an IELTS score of an average of 6.5 and the score for the reading and writing bands must be 6.5 or more.

You do not need to register as a student with the University of Wales until you are confident that you will complete the Certificate. Once you've got a module or two under your belt you can then think seriously about gaining that all-important academic qualification. If you wish to register as a student with the University of Wales through Spurgeon's College, please contact Nick Cameron, our Registrar by email n.cameron@spurgeons.ac.uk who will provide you with the necessary documentation. Please do not go direct to the University. The admissions policy can be accessed by this link.

If you need any more information just contact the Spurgeon's Online Administrator, Emma George 0208 683 8470 or email: e.george@spurgeons.ac.uk.  Alternatively email the Director of Spurgeon's Online, Dr. Debra Reid: d.reid@spurgeons.ac.uk.

Credit Transfer

Credit Transfer (sometimes referred to as Advanced Standing) is available to students who have completed previous theological study at a recognised higher education institution. Time-limits and Credit Transfer in online learning

1. The Certificate in Theology is awarded on the successful completion of 120 credits.  It may be studied on a part-time basis for two to five years. In exceptional situations the study can last up to six years.

2. The Diploma in Theology is awarded on the successful completion of 240 credits.  It may be studied on a part-time basis for four to seven years.  In exceptional situations the study can last up to eight years.

3. The Degree of Bachelor of Divinity (Honours) is awarded on the successful completion of 360 credits.  It may be studied part-time for six to nine years.  In exceptional situations the study can last up to ten years.

4. The above time-limits are reduced pro rata at the outset of the candidature when a candidate is admitted to study with transferable credit, as described below.  Thus students who enter the scheme with 120 credits will have two to five years to complete the Diploma and four to seven years to complete the Degree.

5. The time-limits may be extended in exceptional cases upon the application to the University, and in accordance with the requirements of the University.

6. The performance of a student in previous studies and/or any prior experiential learning can be counted towards the requirements for the award of a degree. Such prior study or experiential learning shall be relevant to the course and needs the approval and credit-rating of the University of Wales.  The prior study shall have been completed at a University or other institution whose schemes have been recognised by the University of Wales.

7. The maximum number of transferred credits which may be accepted to count towards the degree of the University of Wales is 240.
